The owner of La Pedrera, Rosario Segimon
Serious and austere in temperament, he lived in La Pedrera from the time the building was completed until his death in 1964, at the age of 93.
Rosario Segimon, known to all as Doña Rosario, was born in Reus in 1871. Known for her serious and austere demeanour, she lived in La Pedrera from the time the building was completed until her death in 1964 at the age of 93.
Doña Rosario owned La Pedrera, a house in Blanes, and the La Monumental bullring in Barcelona. Although the building bears her husband’s surname, Casa Milà, the property always belonged to her, thanks to the fortune she inherited from her first husband, Josep Guardiola.
Rosario Segimon at Casa Milà
Following her second marriage to Pere Milà, the couple resided in the principal apartment of La Pedrera. This expansive flat featured large windows and grand salons, where family gatherings and dances were held twice a year.

On pleasant days, Doña Rosario enjoyed sitting on the principal apartment’s balcony with her two macaws, keepsakes from her first husband.
A deeply family-oriented woman, Doña Rosario valued her privacy and the company of her loved ones. She never permitted photographs to be taken of her in her La Pedrera apartment, leaving behind only a few known portraits.
The La Pedrera tenants who knew her remarked on her kindness, particularly towards children, and recalled how she encouraged families with young children to live in La Pedrera. Pere Milà’s nephews fondly remembered visiting their Aunt Rosario even after the death of their Uncle “Perico”.
Doña Rosario was very much a woman of her time, actively involved in various charitable and cultural institutions.
She maintained a strong bond with the town of L’Aleixar, the birthplace of her first husband, Josep Guardiola, to which she made numerous donations. In the end, she was laid to rest in L’Aleixar’s cemetery, alongside her first husband.
