The façade
An architectural sculpture
The design of Casa Mila's frontage consists of three different façades that between them form a continuum: the one on Passeig de Gràcia, the one on Carrer de Provença and the one on the chamfered corner at the junction of the two streets. Between them, these three sections make up a frontage of more than 80 metres, with the longest being the façade on Carrer de Provença. A series of 33 balconies created using wrought iron gives the frontage an impressive character. As you will see, the windows are arranged relatively asymmetrically, yet they retain a compositional structure more akin to a sculpture than to the façade of a building.

The Warrior Rooftop
A unique achievement that defies classification
Casa Mila has a remarkable rooftop filled with an artistic presence and is unlike anything else built at that time. The stairwells, ventilation towers and chimneys are positioned to follow the form and rhythm of the main façade and serve the utilitarian purpose for which they were designed. With their fascinating dynamic and symbolic shapes that call to mind the heads of knights, they come to life and speak to us from up on high.
The rooftop terrace at La Pedrera is a unique space considered an icon of Barcelona, with unique views of the city: 360º views.

The Whale Attic
Discover Gaudi in a magical space
In the attic of Casa Mila, where the laundry sinks and storage rooms were once located, you will find the Gaudí exhibition. This space, which gives the impression that you are inside a whale, contains objects and designs, photographs and videos, models and plans that give insights into the most distinctive aspects of Gaudi’s work and the natural sources of inspiration on which he drew. The exhibition in the space is divided into seven sections, one of which deals exclusively with La Pedrera.

The Tenants’ Apartment
Life a hundred years ago
The Tenants’ Apartment is on the fourth storey above the main floor and shows how a bourgeois family in Barcelona lived in the opening 30 years or so of the 20th century. The apartment of Casa Mila takes you on a journey back in time, enabling you to see the way the interior was distributed, the furnishings and household equipment and utensils, as well as the decorative features Gaudi designed such as knobs, mouldings, doors, floor surfaces and handles. In addition, a video provides an opportunity to discover Barcelona and its transformation during the first quarter of the 20th century.

The Flower Courtyard
In full colour
The walls of the Flower Courtyard, in Passeig de Gràcia, are a real spectacle of shapes, light and colours contrasting with the sober facade. The colour is provided by the wall paintings decorating it, mostly with floral motifs. Hundreds of flowers come to life on the ceiling of the spectacular staircase that climbs up to the main floor like a winding root.

The Butterfly Courtyard
Living nature
At the Milà House, the Butterfly Courtyard, which leads off Carrer Provença is a place where everything comes to life. It lives; it breathes, and fantastic creatives live there. The outstanding feature is a huge butterfly that has settled on the lintel between inside and the street: a huge swallowtail. Higher up, enveloping the staircase that leads to the main floor, another butterfly, or some kind of fantastic insect, is resting. A huge insect wing takes flight, perpetually turning a thousand different colours.

The La Pedrera video guide, included in the admission price, is available in: Catalan, Spanish, English, Chinese, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Russian, Japanese, and Korean. Moreover, it incorporates resources in Catalan Sign Language (LSC) and Spanish Sign Language (LSE), transcripts of audio information, and the visit with audio description in Catalan, Spanish, and English. It also includes a simplified version for Easy Reading.
