About the exhibition

The first show in Barcelona devoted to the work of one of today’s most influential artists.

The exhibition by the Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera offers a focused and meaningful approach to the conceptual universe of Anselm Kiefer (Donaueschingen, 1945). Based on a selection of around forty pieces from the private collection of Hans Grothe, one of the most important collections devoted to Kiefer, and complemented by other works from other private collections, the show provides access to the symbolic and material complexity of his artistic production.

More than an exhibition, ‘The Secret Life of Plants. Anselm Kiefer in the Grothe Collection’ is like a single work that reveals the coherence of an artistic project which, through multiple forms and media, painting, sculpture, installation, photography and artist’s books, articulates a profound reflection on memory, matter and knowledge.

Main floor

The main floor was the residence of the Milà-Segimon couple.
