Memories of Rosario Segimon return to La Pedrera
The furniture that once formed part of Rosario Segimon’s bedroom is on display in The Apartment, alongside a painting of the famous macaws that also belonged to the owner.
The Apartment shows what life was like at La Pedrera in the early 19th century and, for the past few months, visitors have also been able to see the furniture from Rosario Segimon’s bedroom. Her original furniture consists of a bed, two bedside tables and a dressing table.
She purchased this bedroom suite in Paris, where she had lived with her first husband, Josep Guardiola. One of the previously unpublished images we have of the main apartment at La Pedrera-Casa Milà shows the furniture that had been there since they first moved into the building.
The most famous macaws on Passeig de Gràcia
Another original piece on display is an oil painting by Pedro Segimon i Cisa, Rosario Segimon’s nephew. The portrait depicts the macaws Gonzalo and Amaya with Teresa Pàmies, one of Rosario Segimon’s maids.
For several years, they were one of the greatest attractions at Gaudí’s building, as they could often be seen sunbathing on the balcony with the Milà-Segimon family’s maid, much to the admiration of passers-by.
The painting hangs on the dining-room wall in The Apartment. Thanks to this donation, we can gain a closer insight into Rosario Segimon Artells, the first owner of La Pedrera.
