About the exhibition

La Pedrera presents Cristina Iglesias. Passages, the first solo show in Barcelona of one of the leading artists in contemporary sculpture. The exhibition in La Pedrera includes some forty works dating from 2002 to the present day and traces a dynamic path that unfolds as a sequence of movements through the fluid spaces of Gaudí’s architecture and the open and closed spaces of Iglesias’s work.

Many of her pieces require the visitor to immerse themselves in them and to pass between the labyrinthine forms of her installations in order to perceive their sculptural mass and grasp their surfaces and changing perspectives. Come and explore her original imaginary of art and life.

Curated by James Lingwood.

You have until January 25, 2026, to experience this unique exhibition of Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera.

The exhibition offers audio itineraries in Catalan, Spanish, and English, which can be downloaded via a QR code and for which headphones are recommended.

What does the exhibition include?

Exhibition

The selection of works in this exhibition has been made with their placement on La Pedrera’s main floor in mind, so that each piece creates a special and sensitive connection with Gaudí’s architecture. A unique experience for appreciating Cristina Iglesias’s work and gaining a deeper understanding of her artistic vision.

Water

Water, a central element in Cristina Iglesias’s work, becomes a sculptural material in motion. In this exhibition, wells and aquatic installations generate sounds, lights and rhythms that evoke the passage of time. The water flows through reliefs and cavities, creating a sensory landscape that invites contemplation and calm.

Growth

Growth, a recurring theme in Cristina Iglesias’s work, is an organic and unstoppable force. Her cast aluminium sculptures seem to emerge from the ground like dense vegetation that takes over the space. The exhibition presents works from Entwined and Growth I, hybrid forms that evoke a free and vital sense of movement.

Passages

The exhibition invites visitors to walk through corridors that Cristina Iglesias imagines as spaces of passage and discovery. Her works, inspired by vegetal and mineral forms, engage in a deep dialogue with Gaudí’s architecture. As visitors move through them, they shape their own perception and reinterpret both the artwork and the space.

Main floor

The main floor was the residence of the Milà-Segimon couple. Today it houses the exhibition space of Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera and allows visitors to discover original Gaudí features, from the open-plan layout and stone columns, some of them inscribed, to the decorated ceilings that once covered the rooms.

The staircase

Access to the main floor is via the staircase in the Passeig de Gràcia vestibule, which was used for the Milà-Segimon family celebrations. On the ceiling and the right-hand wall, murals create a garden that suggests an illusory floating staircase. On the left, stone columns and wrought iron elements add movement and elegance.

The door

Gaudí sought to connect the interior with the exterior. Since large panes of glass were not available, he fitted irregular pieces that form a lattice: small panes at the bottom, where there was a greater risk of breakage, and larger, clearer ones at the top. The structure works as both grille and gateway, with a central entrance for vehicles and side accesses for residents.

Mural paintings

In the courtyard on Passeig de Gràcia, the tapestries recount the legend of Pan and Syrinx. The nymph, pursued by Pan, turns into reeds to flee, and the god uses them to create his flute. The scene, showing Pan playing while Syrinx rejects him, offers a poetic welcome that brings together nature, music and mythology with the modernist spirit.
